PBJ CRM 7.85 and Vault 7.08 — sign in with your phone, and your passkey opens the Vault

PBJ CRM 7.85 and PBJ Vault 7.08 are out — free updates for everyone who owns PBJ CRM 7.x and PBJ Vault 7.x. Signing in gets two more ways in, and the Vault popup works the way it should. There is no database change; take a backup before you update, as always.

Sign in with your phone or this device’s passcode

The CRM sign-in page now has Use my phone (show a QR code) and Use this device’s passcode beside Sign in with a passkey. Signing in on a computer that has no passkey? Scan the code with the phone that has yours. Or use the computer’s own PIN, fingerprint or face.

The Vault popup no longer errors

Opening a protected value from a list or a contact’s profile and typing the Vault passphrase could end in an error instead of the value. The value now appears and stays on screen. The popup’s 30-minute auto-lock had the same fault and is fixed too. A record whose protected field was never filled in now says so plainly instead of showing an error.

Your sign-in passkey can open the Vault

• Link it once. After you unlock with the passphrase, the popup offers Use my passkey next time. Say yes once and the passkey you sign in with also opens the Vault. You won’t need to type the passphrase.
• Use your phone. Every passkey step in the Vault also offers Use my phone (QR code).
• The passphrase keeps working. If a passkey can’t unlock the Vault, the popup says so in plain words.

Encryption is unchanged: the passkey never sends its secret to the server, the same way Vault passkeys have worked since 7.05.

Also in this release

• Popups show one button when two would say the same thing. The Vault popup used to show “Done” twice.
• Vault 7.07: switching a field to encrypted checks each new value before the plain copy is replaced, and Convert and Link only write to records you may edit.

Update both from Plugins in your WordPress dashboard once your licence key is saved. Every change is listed on the PBJ CRM changelog and the PBJ Vault changelog.
