PBJ SEO & Security 4.3.0 — a Caching tab, and pages that are never saved
PBJ SEO & Security 4.3.0 is out. It adds a Caching tab, and with it a list of the pages on your site that must never be saved and re-served to somebody else.
Everything about caching, in one place
To make a site fast, the server can build a page once, keep the finished copy, and hand that copy straight to the next visitor. It is why a busy site stays quick, and nearly always it is invisible and helpful. The switch that allows it, the button that throws all the copies away, and the new never-save list now sit together on a single Caching tab instead of being scattered around Options.
Some pages should never be saved
A saved copy is only safe when the page looks the same to everybody. Plenty of pages do not: somebody’s customer list, their support tickets, their invoice. Hand a saved copy of one of those to the next visitor and they are looking at another person’s information — and an invoice served from an old copy carries on saying “unpaid” long after it has been paid.
PBJ SEO now recognises those pages in PBJ CRM, PBJ Helpdesk, PBJ Invoicing, PBJ Access Control and PBJ Form Builder, and keeps them out of the saving automatically. Rows only appear for the plugins you actually have installed, and they start switched on — you do not have to know the tab exists to be protected by it.
And your own pages too
Tick any page of your own that should always be built fresh, or type web addresses one per line — anything starting with what you type is covered, so /my-account/ also covers everything beneath it. Pasting a full web address works; it gets trimmed for you. Saving the tab also clears the copies already saved, so a page you have just protected stops being served from an old one immediately.
Upgrading
Nothing to do. Your existing caching setting is carried across untouched, the protective rows arrive already switched on, and if your server is not LiteSpeed the tab tells you plainly that these settings do nothing there. If you want to be thorough after updating, open SEO & Security → Caching, press Save caching settings, then Purge cached pages now.
